Howard Johnson Inn Washington DC North/BW Parkway - Cheverly

We stayed five nights and had a very pleasant time. The room was a bit smelly when you first entered and Wifi was very very slow but over all would recommend this hotel. The shuttle service they run to the metro station was really what sold us as we did not have a car.

The room was clean and very spacious; however, as I took the stairway to the front desk to check out, there was a used condom in the stairwell (out of the wrapper). I notified the front desk and they called the cleaning staff to clean it up.

Rooms were clean and spacious. Continental breakfast included waffle maker, and hot items such as eggs and grits. Hotel also offered a complimentary shuttle to and from the local train/subway station. This shuttle ran until shortly after the train closed. Excellent for those of us who wish to see d.c. Service was good but the rooms were below average and should be cleaned. Sheets were worn and bed was sunken.

After reading the other reviews we knew exactly what to expect. It is not in a great neighboorhood. The hotel is very old, do not expect do get free wifi it does not work in the rooms. to use our cell phone most times I needed to go outside. The breakfast was good fresh fruits waffles cereals and eggs sort of? The elevator is very small it can fit 4 […] people max. The major complaints are 1. there was a used wet dirty towel in the shower when we checked in. 2. We wanted to check out at 4 am went to the lobby to get the luggage cart and the employee was asleep on the couch. I knocked on the door and the employee said to please respect his sleep time. reviews are important when the price is discounted. I think they discount because the hotel is hard to spot from the road and probably not surrounded by offices, etc. Found the room (3rd floor) to be clean, no smell, everything worked, Would definitely stay there again if something took me back to that area. At our first day arriving, we came earlier than expected around 8 am then the scheduled 12 pm, So we tried to check in. We were told that most of the rooms were still occupied and that some were being cleaned, so we were offered to enjoy the provided breakfast for the time being. If you're expecting a five star hotel you looking for the wrong place, but if you're trying to get the bang for your buck and stay in a great location to DC then this is the hotel for you. The complimentary breakfast was a nice touch as well.

We had a great room and although the hotel was near full capacity upon our arrival our room was quiet and the beds were super comfortable. The room was very clean (newly renovated?) and there was a half size fridge and microware. The staff was very polite and provided helpful information about getting around to the places we wanted to visit. I was worried about it being in Maryland... But, this hotel was actually in a perfect location! We got in through Reagan Airport and spent &40 ($33 but the driver did not give change!) on the cab to the hotel. That was a waste! We could have taken the Metro Train from the airport to Cheverly Station and it would have been only under $3. When you call […] the hotel, they'll send a shuttle to pick you up from the station. We did this on our Washington Tour. We ride the shuttle to Cheverly Train Station which takes you to walking distance of most DC tourist spots. It's really very convenient and cheap! My suggestion is to take the Orange train from Cheverly to Metro Center then hop on the red train to Union station. Then take the Big Bus tour to go all over DC. It was great to come back to the hotel with gold fish crackers and O.J. waiting in the lobby. Free breakfast includes waffle maker, scrambled eggs, grits cottage cheese, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, danishes. Rooms were bigger then expected so was nice. Also had fridge and microwave. We stayed for 4 nights and ended up changing a room after day 1. The room's toilet had a problem with flushing. TV was not flat screen as was described in their ad on the website and constantly flickered when we tried watching it. There was a tray with sugar and coffee filters, but no coffee maker in the room. When we reported the problems, they sent […] the maintenance guy right away. He spent over two hours in our room, trying to fix everything and talking on his phone in the mean time. At last, he said he couldn't fix the issue with the TV since they were missing a replacement part. I asked to get a different room instead. In about 20 minutes we received the keys to the room next to ours, where everything worked and we had a coffee maker. The first day proved to be rather frustrating with all the inconveniences and waiting, but the next 3 days in the new room were pretty good. Breakfast was very decent. They served it even a little bit past 10 when it was supposed to be over. Everybody from the staff was welcoming and polite, so if not for the day 1 this stay would have been great. Skaityti daugiau

it was our first trip to DC we stayed here because of price , but was pleasantlly surprsed the hotel was large and clean close to the metro line the staff was AWESOME! and a special thank you to whoever cleaned our room they did a fantastic job we will deff stay here in the future... if i had 1 negative thing it would be a bus pulled in late at night […] and sat idling loudly rigght outside our room for over an hour but besides that had a great time.. Our family of four went for Easter Break. Overall it was all right. It served our purpose for resting and close to the attractions. A few hiccups, but not the staff''s fault-like the safe that did not work. They got it fixed for the next day, but charged ALL the days for it. I did notice that upon arrival they ask for your credit card and do not tell […] you you'll be charged for the safe at a daily rate. I asked just because a read one of these reviews. Everyone was friendly. Breakfast was pretty good-always the same basic choices. We did feel safe, no issues there. The rooms are a little bit shabby and old, but none the less they are clean and comfortable. The shuttle service is very convenient, but after paying quite a bit for on transportation on the first day, we decided to use our car. It was actually better-we always found free parking on the DC streets or affordable parking at the zoo, (you just have to be there before 10 am or so for the zoo). The hotel is also close to restaurants and fast food places as well as Walmart in case you need anything. I'd recommend staying here if you're not too picky. Skaityti daugiau

This hotel served my needs. I was not happy to smell marijuana in the hallway by my room and was also turned off by the cigarette butts outside the room on the ground and the empty beer bottle. We had to stay for a few hours we checked in at 4:30am and they allowed us a late check out. We were able to handle our business and get back home. It was really great.

The hotel room itself was very nice, the beds comfortable and most importantly clean. It's located right off the BWI Parkway so you don't have to go far if you want to go north or south of the area. The ironing board with the iron physically attached to it was interesting. That had to be replaced because the one in the room had died and someone had […] left water in the iron and rust had settled in. I called the front desk for a replacement and waited an hour and had to call them back. That was at 5 PM and I had a wedding rehearsal at 6 - good thing I was only 15 minutes away! The in room wi-fi and cable was great. The breakfast lady was anything but welcoming - I don't know if she wasn't feeling well or just have a bad attitude period or if that's just the way she is. The front desk staff was friendly. The complimentary breakfast was more than I expected - just no meat. The exterior of the hotel doesn't match the interior of the rooms - those were nice and so where the beds. I so needed the rest and slept well. The location for us was perfect and beyond what we could have wished for. Just a stone throw from DC and quite close to convenience stores and gas stations. We didn't use their courtesy shuttle as we drove in from DC but the breakfast was good. If I have the cause the go back to Maryland I will not hesitate going back. The overall hotel is pretty nice for the price. If you didn't have a GPS I honestly think you'd get lost. The hotel is back behind a gas station with a little road leading up to it. Located in an obviously bad neighborhood because all doors are locked and everybody have to be screened at a peep window. Bad sign... We had to move rooms because the first rooms bed had someone esles hair all over it. Then in our second room the wash cloths had hair in them. Then after I checked out and came home I found a $3 charge on my card. I called and it was a fee for the safe in the room! Great alternative hotel from the major chain hotels. Our rooms were attractive and clean. I would probably classify this hotel as a boutique hotel. It's very classy and retro.

Excellent, employees went out of their way to accommodate us.Shuttle service was convenient. We were there on Christmas and they provided free snacks for us. Morning food was real eggs.
