Hotel Lawrence - Dalasas

Hotel really is its age. It needs a total reno, or atleast fresh paint. The beds were not comfortable, and our a/c did not work. This made out June visit very uncomfortable! It is probably a good value for a downtown location close to all of the tourist traps and govt. buildings.

We entered the Hotel Lawrence and worried about it right away. The property is in disrepair in some regards - our room had peeling paint, a bathtub that had seen better days, worn capeting, BUT, the service at this hotel was in every way comparable to the nicest hotels on the planet. I was completely turned off by the hotel. It also did not help that the staff was not very nice. The location is wonderful - right downtown, but I would recommend paying a few more dollars and get something nicer. The hotel has great potential because of the potential of its historic charm, but they have not capitalized on it at all.

Hotel did not have a comforter on bed, friendly staff, but hotel is old.

I expected more from the appearance of the hotel compared to what I show on the internet. The chairs in the lobby was very dirty. And my last night I had to walk up from the lobby to the 9th floor and the young lady at the desk was not sensitive to misfortune of the guest; stating she was tire of hearing the word elevator.

Not long after I walked in the lobby and was welcomed by an awful sewer odor, I realized this was a very poor choice of hotel. I had booked two nights, but cancelled the second night and left early. No parking lot. Dirty dirty rooms, stains all over carpet that looked 30 years old. No fridge or microwave. Water poured through our ceiling at 6 am and no one responded. Staff were dishonest. Just dark gloomy and scary. Reminded me of The Shining. Shuttle/ Valet man was nice and was close to the Convention Center.

You tell me how comfortable it can get when you're woken up at 8am on Sunday by the fire alarm because someone burnt their toast. Couple that with a small hotel room with an even smaller TV, you're better off at a motel where rooms are twice the size and half the cost to stay in them.

I was disappointed that the elevator was not operational and the parking lot was separate from the hotel and payment was in a meter box. I did not feel safe having to go out to my car in the early morning or evening.

My office was under the impression that this was a recently restored/renovated boutique hotel. Such could not be further from the case. While all the substructure and potential is there for something quite fine, that possibility is at least ten million dollars away from the reality of existing conditions.

If you're looking for a basic place to stay that's within walking distance of union station and very easy to get to/fom, this will do it. It's definitley an older hotel with it's perks, but it works for what it is. The staff were very friendly. There was even a milk and cookies night cap in the evenings.

This is a Hotel built in 1927. And for the most part it is very original to the day. I was able to walk all around Downtown Dallas from the Hotel. It's older, but has that charm of and older hotel with the upkeep of something new. The staff was very friendly, breakfast included, and milk and cookies at bedtime! Everything in the room worked, beds comfortable, hot water stayed hot, and Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea availabe. The only […] negative was that the internet connection (free with your room) went out sometimes in the evening...during the daytime hours it seemed ok - I was able to work for several hours after walking Dallas. Public transportation available from the hotel (shuttles around town) and their light rail is within a few walking block of the hotel. Had a good stay. Staff was very helpful, room was clean, and even though it was a smoking room (on 10th floor) I didn't smell any lingering smoke. mattress was pretty bouncy, but room was otherwise cozy and comfortable.

The location is close to the Dallas Convention Center, but the hotel is very dirty. The computer at the reception desk has an inch of dust on it just to give you a clue about first impressions. The rugs throughout the hotel smell musty and old. The bathrooms look nice on the website, but in actuality the bright orange paint was used to mask the moldy, […] old walls, and they didn't bother to replace the actual tub and mine didn't have a drain cover. The hotel was very convenient for my purposes as I was attending a conference at the convention center. However, the service is far below acceptable. First, the furniture in the lobby is old and needs to be replaced. The elevator is also on its last legs. Photos on the website are not from the hotel we stayed at. The hotel amenities are from the 80's and made the business trip very difficult; and the work out room has old equipment that does not work.

Because I was traveling alone I decided to brave all the scary reviews and take a chance on Hotel Lawrence. Glad I did. Yes, it's almost 100 years old, the rooms are small, and the carpet was not perfect. And the in-room TV was a chunky tube TV with crappy reception. But the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, complimentary wireless and breakfast […] were great. The staff were very accommodating with free van rides to and from nearby attractions. The attached restaurant and bar are a meeting place for locals because of the convenient location across from the train station. Complimentary coffee and water bottles in room were a nice touch and the iron and ironing board in the room were convenient as well. It's walking distance to the convention center, a bunch of tasty restaurants on Market street, and all sorts of historic west end stuff. Terrible stay...elevator was broken and supposedly had been for weeks. Had to walk up 6 flights of a tiny staircase carrying luggage and a kid. Valet parking was non-existant. Supposed "courtesy" van didn't seem like a courtesy rather an inconvenience to the driver. Hotel has lots of character! This is the second time that we have stayed here for our annual business convention.....I am already looking forward to making it a third time next year! I love that it is not "brand new", but an updated "period" hotel. Service was next to superb!

The personnel at the front counter were good, but that was the only good thing about the hotel. The elevators, one worked, was very small. The rooms were small and out dated. The bathroom was very small.

The only two redeeming qualities about this hotel were its location and friendly staff. This property must be a cash cow for the owner as he puts no money into it at all. Hotel Lawrence has a lot of history behind it, from its design to the alleged resident ghost, and it obviously was grander in an earlier time. Now it shows the wear of age, with some rooms having had lackadaisical renovations and others needing attention. Clearly, everything is run on a low budget, but that is reflected in much lower prices than other […] places that are in the immediate area.
