For our purposes this hotel was just fine. We were travelling with friends who had a house in Anahola, just 15 minutes away. We were close to food shopping and town amenities, not a good swimming beach, but they had a pool. Good value for the money.

Very impressed with all aspects. Splurged on ocean view and our view was outstanding, Second or third floor is the best view by far. Great ammenities and supplies in the room were wonderful. Very nice dishes, silverware, frig, microwave and coffee pot. Enjoyed breakfast on the balcony after awesome sunrises each day. Great location and beautiful grounds. […] Very small tip...they give you coffee each day as part of the "fee". Good flavor, but weak and only makes 2-3 cups and they charge for additional packets. The hotel is nice, but not easy to find. Parking is limited, not enough spaces for the guest.They do nickel and dime you to death. Internet costs extra and the $15.99 per day resort fee is outrageous. Also if you need to print boarding passes, etc, the internet costs. It would be nice if hotels would cut some of the fees and charges off. They make enough […] money already.There are no elevators to the upper floors so you have to carry your luggage up. I came back for a second time, because the hotel's location is great when you want to expore the island in every direction and at the same time have a cozy place on the oceanfront. Rooms, service and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff are great; although for a longer stay I wish the room service would do some dusting and mopping in between.

Overall stay was pleasant, however our room had thin walls and we could hear conversations in the room next to us. Also the front desk staff was not present / did not answer the phone after 10pm as we tried to request a wake up call an no one could assist us. One thing we also learned is that being in the heart of Kapaa isn't necessarily a good thing. […] Traffic is horrendous (took us an hour to travel 2 miles) on weekdays after 4pm and we wasted a lot of time in that. This "resort" resembles independently owned condos where the owners may pay a managent fee to the hotel to manage renting their units out. Not sure if this is what's going on or not, but it seems that way. The rooms are nice and spacious with kitchen units. The front desk staff, when we checked in, were rude. This is the only experience we had the entire […] trip with anyone on the island being rude. Could have just been an off day for her? The pool is tiny and there really are no other "resort" amenities. If you're just planning on sleeping here and not looking for the resort experience, the value is here. It's located next to an activity rental shop, a little grocery market, a couple restaurants and a bar with live music in the evening. If you're looking for valet, help with your luggage, guaranteed parking, activities provided by the resort, staff to answer questions about what to do on the island, a big pool, a gym, etc, there are real resorts in the area with all of those things. We stayed in and oceanfront third floor unit that was well maintained and comfortable. We enjoin oceanfront units not just for the view, but so that we can keep the door open at night to hear the ocean in it's fully glory. This room did not disappoint. No need for air conditioning in March, just the ocean breezes. Convenient to the low key Coconut Market […] Place which has a farmers' market on Tuesday and Thursday with the best tropical fruit. Lori at the front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were also friendly and communicative, though I would have liked them to have swept the balcony when they cleaned. As others have mentioned, a few more lounge chairs at the beach would be a plus. If this hotel had units with full kitchens we would go back often. Minibar cooking wears thin after a few days. We had no problems with parking, though we did not go out at night and this wasn't the height of tourist season. All in all a quite pleasant stay. Skaityti daugiau

We are long-time visitors to Kauai, and we chose the Islander for its proximity to the areas we like to spend time. It was quiet, clean and everything looked nice. The staff is professional and pleasant. The pool area is nice. The view is unsurpassed. This is a nice hotel, with a good combination of affordability and the must-have amenities for a solid Kauai vacation (pool & hot tub with bar, beach, activities agent). Hotel is a great location about half-way to all the sights and locations that you may want to see visiting the island of Kauai. About 1-2 hours north to Princeville, Hanalei Bay, Tunnels Beach, etc. About 1-2 hours south to Port Allen, Hanapepe, Poipu, etc. We picked this location because we knew we wanted to go all over the island. We stayed January […] 31st through February 5th. We had 2 different rooms during our stay (due to reservations we made). The first room's air conditioner was permanently ON and therefore our room was about 60 degrees the entire time. We shut it off using the electonic remote control and it was still running full-tilt. Our second room was better temperature wise. The doors to not seal shut and we could see light thorugh the crack of the entry door in our first room (which was on the 1st floor). The decor is blah, has not been updated for over a decade or two. The "queen" beds are double beds, which are very small for 2 people, and my husband and I are very slight build. The lighting in the room and bathroom is dim. The parking at the hotel is VERY limited and we had to get a pass every evening to park off-property and not be towed. The hotel staff is unfriendly and do not welcome you, thank you for your stay, and do not come to the desk when they see you waiting there to ask a question. This happened to us several times. Hotel could use a little updating, but was a nice location on the beach, and beds were comfortable. Parking was not good, not enough spots for the Hotel and had to park block or two away always.

After confirming reservation at least three times, The room booked was occupied when we used our key card! The front desk gave some lame excuse about a double booking? After several minutes of waiting my husband went up and demanded to speak to the Mgr. and requested an upgrade. Seeing other guests registering after us getting their rooms. It was small compared to my timeshare we came from but it was functional. Wonderful beachfront 1 bedroom. Has a "mini" kitchenette with plates, bowls, utensils. A small fridge, no freezer, and a microwave. The grounds were beautiful! And location is great too. Can walk to bars, restaurants, and shops. The Sand Bar was a blast!

Check in was great and we were upgraded to oceanview at no extra cost AND they gave us a box of chocolates. A few more lounges for the beach area would be nice.

The Aston Islander on the Beach is AMAZING! This was my first time going to Hawaii and since I wanted a quiet, do-nothing vacation, friends and colleagues recommended Kauai and this hotel. What can I say? The staff were friendly, the room was amazing, and everything was kept in spotless condition. I had requested an Oceanview Room (the standard is […] Garden View), and WHAT A VIEW! The Oceanview Rooms have their own private balcony, some basic house supplies (microwave, sink, dishes with utensils, coffee/tea maker - but no kitchen). The Wifi for the room and for the lobby were strong and had no real issues with checking messages on my laptop and phone. The beach is just a minute or two away and since it's privately owned by Aston Islander, there was "puh-lenty" of space to lay back and get a nice sun tan. The hotel provides the beach benches/seats so all you need is your towel, shades, and a bottle water. You can get varieties of food, clothes, and groceries at the Coconut Marketplace - located directly behind the hotel. I spent a week at the hotel with my wife and four year old son. The positives: It is fairly close to the airport. There is a nice little market area across the parking lot that has a few restaurants, shops and general store. It is pretty central to everything on the island. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are beaches and more places to eat/shop […] if you are willing to walk around a mile. We didn't rent a car and having a bus stop closeby was nice for us to travel. The negatives: The beach right near the hotel isn't really usable but a half mile north is a decent one. The pool wasn't heated, meaning the water was pretty cold and hard to get used to. I suggest walking to the hotel just to the north, pretending you are a guest and using their pool as it is nicer and warmer. This isn't really a negative but it is worth remembering that you will get charged around $16 per night extra as a "resort fee." The rooms are a little worn. Overall we were satisfied with our stay. It was reasonably priced, had a fridge/microwave in the room, had laundry on site, had all the things we needed nearby and was centrally located. If I was rich I would stay somewhere else but for our budget it was about what we hoped it would be. Skaityti daugiau

Great location , in kapaa, close to every thing you need on the island .The beach is small ,and was not great for a swim , but the walk was great .I had my best sun rise ever . No need to pay for the playstation and DVD rentals with your 15 $ hotel fee, i geuss their internet about average and need some improvement instead of using copouns for each […] device in the room .No breakfast been served , i guess it will a great add ,so not to bother your morning hunger. Great location on the beach in Kapaa. But the room felt small and bit out dated. The pool aeria is small and freezing cold... The staff was a disappointment, not so friendly and service minded. We got a room on third floor and there's no elevator. We feel that the hotel is a little bit overpriced!

This is the second time we have stayed here and I don't remember the staff being so unorganized and grumpy before. But we are not in our room very much and didn't mind having to call the front desk for towels so often. They never did seem to get that we had 3 people in our room and not just 2! Our arrival was a bit stressful b/c they sent us to one […] room, then the cleaning lady said it wasn't ready after we started unpacking, then she sent us to another room, then the front desk sent us to our third and final room, all after we had done a grocery store run and had our hand more than full. All in all, we like this place. It's super mellow, the beach front is the best I've seen so far (absolutely beautiful!) and they have a small kitchenette which saves on eating breakfast out everyday. It's fairly quite, the walls are not the thickest (the first night our neighbor had a movie blasting, but with one phone call she promptly turned it down) and the ocean view is serene! Our partial ocean room was on the ground floor and just had a glimpse of the ocean. It was also very close to the laundry room and the supply room, so the surrounding didn't look very inviting. the room and general condition were quite good, but they have cut staff such that we could not get towels or bed sheets delivered to our room. We had to get up out of bed and go to the front desk to pick up things staff should be doing.

From the moment we arrived I was impressed with the staff. We arrived late in the evening after a long flight, and it took all of 5 minutes to check in and get to our room. The room was nice (except the -- possibly unavoidable? -- mildewy smell, but the front desk personnel (especially Sue) were fabulous! We stayed only one night, but it was quite nice.

Aston Islander on The Beach in Kapaa was a great hotel choice for my husband and I. You will need to rent a car. Parking is free though. We got partial Ocean view, only could see the ocean from our little balcony, not if sitting inside. You cannot swim in the ocean here as the surf is dangerous . The pool area and bar is cute and has a nice view of […] the ocean. The staff at the front desk were pleasant. The grounds are kept up and pretty with lots of lawn and flowers. The Coconut Market Place is right behind the hotel. The entire package we bought, hotel, car and flight to and from Honolulu was a good value. You still need to pay a resort fee though. But at least the parking is free! If you have little kids you might want to get a place that allows safe swimming and playing in a sandy safe water area. This was a great choice for my husband and myself and 2 boys 11 and 12. Clean comfortable and position an the island was perfect between the nth and sth shore. We had an ocean front apartment. The pool bar was perfect for meeting other guests and the bar man new Kauai well and had great suggestions for what to do in the following days of your stay. […] WE LOVED THE NTH SHORE, hANALIE bay and we did a Sunshine helicopter flight which was the highlight of our stay in Kauai. Hotel was beautiful, right on the beach in Kappa'a. It 's more private then the crowded town of Poipu. My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. It was outstanding. The views were beautiful, the hotel was open, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again. I stayed here in October 2012. I booked the hotel in June 2012 and paid extra to upgrade to an ocean front room. When I checked in, I was put into the Molokai building - second room from the end. My balcony looked out to the Ni'ihau building with the ocean off to the right. I would call this partial ocean view - it was nothing close to an actual ocean […] front room. I called the front desk for an explanation, and they told me that the room was technically in front of the Ni'ihau building, so they considered that an ocean front. The front desk woman told me to wait until sunrise - that the view would be spectacular. The Ni'ihau and Kauai buildings were closing in a few days for construction so they were not available for booking. I was so disappointed that I had paid extra and received no other compensation or amenities to make up for my view. I didn't even receive an apology because in their eyes, they gave me what I paid for. The room itself isn't great. The floors were dirty. You would walk around in your bare feet and wipe off the dirt with your white towel. There was mold growing along part of the wall. It was not ideal. As for parking, if you are not back to the hotel before sunset, you will be sent to the overflow lot. I went to the lot the next morning to find trash all over my rental car, but luckily, there was no damage. I have stayed in other Aston properties with much better results.
