Westgate Hotel - San Diegas

We loved san Diego and the Hotel was very beautiful and perfectly located for site seeing. Our rooms were great. We had a couple of concerns however: the Hotel user fees or whatever they call them now (resort fees elsewhere) which were tacked on when we got there were rediculous. I think about $20 per day per room. Also the parking fees, which weren't […] bad, but the car jockey's wanted a tip every time you put the car away and took it out. We had to park there, there was no other choice and so we paid $16/day for parking. Therfore tipping them additionally was ridiculous, but of course we felt obliged and did once each on arrival and departure. All the staff were helpful and accomodating except for the 20 something female clerk who initially checked us in the first day. Find her a new profession please, as she had the personality of a door mat. Way too young and inexperienced to be handling the front counter on a Saturday by herself. She told us if we wanted fridges in our room we had to pay extra for them and when we got to the room there were bar fridges in both rooms. She couldn't properly explain the Hotel fees the parking fees etc. otherwise a great time at the westgate. i would recommend it. Skaityti daugiau

We had a wonderful stay. The concierge was amazing. Very helpful. The hotel could use some updating but for us it didn't matter at all. We have no complaints and would stay there again.

As San Diego residents we checked-in for a little weekend getaway. A great location for shopping and dining in the Gaslamp area of San Diego. Upon arrival the valet service was very prompt and friendly. The front desk experience was likewise quick, friendly and professional. We were given a room on the 17th floor. Unfortunately our room overlooked 'C' […] Street where the trolley runs. In fact there was a trolly stop just below our window. The Westgate has done nothing to help with soundproofing and we heard the trolley into the wee hours. Likewise, we could even hear the homeless people down on the street mulling around. The layout (at least in our area of the hotel) has an anti-room that you enter before entering your actual guest room. Our anti-room is shared with one other guest room. We heard people in and out of the anti-room as well as the hallway well past midnight. One of the fixtures in the bathroom was loose. Not a big deal, but something I don't expect in a hotel of this caliber. Room service food was good and unusually fast to be delivered All in all I'd say the hotel was just slightly above average. Close to the water, a fun outdoor mall, good restaurants and bars. Really nice service. Parking in the structure is expensive but what can you do. 10 minute walk gets you to most places you'd want to be. Hotel is really classy with a vintage feel. Spacious rooms and big ole showers.

Awesome luxury hotel. Surrounding area and the entrance is very presentable. Friendly staff and great service. The best part is, it is located close to everything walking distance. I enjoyed my stay.

Very nice, old hotel, that is very well maintained. My only complaint is that it was really an issue to just get ice. At the price, ice should be there without asking, and we had to ask twice.

Read all of the reviews and it didn't really register about the $15 hotel "fee". This supposedly good hotel actually charges you a mandatory fee for the dinky coffee pot in the bathroom, a newspaper and turning down your bed. Every once in a while there is some kind of fee that actually borders on offensive and this one does. If the hotel is in desperate […] need of the $15 per room then they should just raise the rates. The desk clerk actually looked embarrassed when she told us about it and we seriously questioned her. I wouldn't stay here again. Pick another hotel closer to the waterfront. San Diego is a convention town, and like many others that's why I was there. Slightly fed up with the prices of some of the hotels i opted for the westgate after a serious search on expedia. It was a great choice. The quality of the hotel is first rate, I was upgraded to a suite upon arrival offering space to relax during my lengthy stay (9 days), […] once settled in I was sure I had made the right choice, everything about the hotel says "quality", perhaps something of a throwback to a time where service really mattered. The location is great, very close to the Gaslamp district and about a 25 minute walk to Balbao Park and San Diego Zoo (or there is a bus nearby) it took me around 10 minutes each day to walk to the convention which was ideal. Other features are worthy of a mention, breakfast was very good, perhaps a little pricey but I recommend the eggs benedict, if you are looking for something a little cheaper there are plenty of local places to grab breakfast if thats your preference - unlike 90% of hotels in San Diego the Wifi in the room was free - that's a big saving every day you stay - the business room offered free color printing also very helpful The service was amazing - staff remembered your name and discussions you had - professional and friendly at all times Finally the price - its very good value and around half the price of the Hyatt, Marriott etc - honestly give it a chance you will enjoy it - but slow down and take some time to relax whilst there ! Great hotel and an amazing location close to everything shopping bars gaslamp and the hotel was very clean and staff was great! The bar was a nice stop before heading to fourth and fifth Street. Will definitely be staying there next time I'm in San Diego!!!

During our week's stay, all the food was excellent. We ate breakfast there every day, dinner twice and Sunday champagne brunch. It was all fabulous. My only complaints were with the bathroom. I am a local and was excited to stay here initially, this hotel is BEAUTIFUL and in a wonderful location. However, in going along with this I expected fantastic service and was sadly disappointed. Problems with valet being full and not offering any other alternative (why don't you have overflow for guests?!), room service and the front desk not picking […] up the phone or calling us back, then taking almost an hour (and another phone call) to bring us our food. Finally, don't bother with the concierge for any night life. She will shrug her shoulders and brush you off. Very strange service for such a beautiful hotel, we sadly won't be staying here again. The Westgate is a really nice hotel with an old fashioned flair. We saw them serving tea to a few people when we checked in, however they did not offer us any! There was a $15.00 facility use fee they told us for the pool etc. however, the pool is under renovations and cannot be used. There is valet parking only at $32.00, however when we went to dinner, […] upon our return we waiting in our car for 15 minutes for the valet. We had to go inside to find him and he was talking to the young clerk at the counter. No apology was given. The service at this hotel was very good. The room was clean and so was the hotel. My only complaint is that the bed was not comfortable at all. Because of this, I would not recommend that someone pay the money to stay here. The pillows were bad and the bed was hard. My boyfriend and I both got hardly any sleep which made for a difficult next day.

I stayed one night at the Westgate. I liked the decoration of the hotel lobby and in the room. Very classy like The bed was very comfy. There are 15$ convenient fee per night which I really disagreed on that. Because there are no free breakfast, no free parking lot, and they offered you only a free daily newspaper (on demand). I am not aware of this […] fee before booking because I used Expedia mysterious deal to booked it. 32$ valet parking per night! You gotta be kidding! I parked my car at public parking on Ash and 1st street. It was only 16$ for 24 hour. I only stayed at this hotel because of the Expedia mysterious deal. The Westgate has all the old world charm and then some. Very convenient location to the heart of downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp. Its one of my favorite hotels that I have stayed in my life. Treat yourself to the good life!

We booked this hotel as it was central to all San Diego highlights: Gas Lamp, Midway, Seaport Village, including our trip to the Holiday Bowl (Qualcom Stadium), where my UCLA Bruins bombed out. The hotel staff was awesome, they were "old school" in the sense they remembered your name, pushed elevator buttons for you, asked how your day was going, they […] even gave me a little fun intended "hard time" for the result of my Bruins game. The hotel lobby staff was accomodating and polite, the concierge was equally accomodating as was both the morning & evening cleaning staff. We had one issue with our breakfast room service, but the matter was immediately resolved by Alberto the Food & Beverage Manager. The restaurant was equally accomodating and our server (Juan) was extremely professional. Overall, the room was clean, beds were comfortable, spacious, our balcony view was awesome as well. I would highly recommend this hotel and intend to revisit in April, my youngest son requested to come back to the hotel for his birthday! In closing, I've read comments regarding this hotel being a little "aged" and the valet service fee as "a little steep". The hotel has "character" only gained over time, it's service personnel is exceptional and although the valet cost is a little high, there is just no parking available in this area of San Diego, the service includes "in and out" capabilities throughout the day. Surprise #1: Beautiful hotel, original luxury decor from the mid 1900s. Room wall, and floors have recently been refurbished so it feels new. Clean. Rooms are much larger than most 4 and 5 star hotels in the area. Beds are a bit stiff, too stiff for a good night sleep if you like a softer feel, which I do. Hotel is spending good money on patio and pool […] area. Surprise #2: Hotel added a $15/day room fee that was not mentioned when I committed to a price online. The fee is for unlimited bottled water and free internet. I guess that is OK if you drink a lot of water and use the internet. Parking cost $32/day. The hotel is a bit dated (they still use old school duvets), but wonderful staff and GREAT location. It sucks that the valet is $30 and you have to pay a resort fee for the 'free' internet and bottles of water, but really no major complaints otherwise.

Hotel was very dated. Probably was fantastic in the 70's. Lobby smelled like mothballs or your elderly grandmother's living room. Decor only missing plastic slipcovers and it would look like it as well.

Beautiful, comfortable, Extremely well kept hotel. Very kind and helpful staff. Only 2 blocks from gas lamp area, lots of places to eat and shopping at Horton Plaza 1 block away. 10th. floor view of city is unbeatable. Only low point is the street noise at night. Amazing how it can carry up so high.

The chief concierge (Shraddha) took great care of us. It was our anniversary and she made reservations for us at a wonderful restaurant (Osetra) where they treated us like royalty at her request. The decor was a dated for my personal preference, however some people may like it. I was charged an additional "facilities fee" on top of the room charge of $15 per night, and at one point was locked out of my room for an additional $40 per night charge (despite me giving them authorisation to use my card). It took me an 1 hour and 20 minutes to order, […] eat and pay for breakfast, I had better things to do than try and get the attention of the staff who spent more time in the kitchen than looking after the 6 people eating breakfast. I'd understand if it was busy but it wasn't. The housecleaning lady rang me up, I explained to her she could come and clean the room but I was working, she didn't understand a word I said (so why have someone who can't understand basic english call), followed by front desk who rang and I explained to, still no housecleaning showed up. The only saving grace was the Indian lady who didn't work on front desk, I think she was part of the conceirge service she was lovely and welcoming. It's safe to say I'll never stay at this hotel again. The colour scheme in the rooms was yellow, that's all I can really remember. Almost like tobacco stained colour - again not my personal preference. Wi-fi in rooms is good, elsewhere in the hotel reception was poor. Skaityti daugiau
