The first room we were assigned had used containers of food on the kitchen counter and and a hand written sign taped to the toilet that said "stopped up". The young man at the front desk was excellent in allowing us to choose another room but this should never have happened.

Room was very clean and more than adequate. Wonderful views of the Atlantic with easy access from the hotel property. Close to local eateries.

If you're going to visit Wrightsville - Shell Island is the best place to stay hands down with two pools, all beach front suites, kitchenettes and great service - perfect place for the family. A little secluded from the downtown of things so car is required but a great getaway.

I was expecting a resort but in reality this is a motel. I arrived at 9:30 local time and all options for food where closed. The quality of the room was sub par for the rating and not as comfortable as a days inn. This property needs to be renovated to replace the 20 year old beds, furniture, carpet, and cheap toiletries.

We absolutely loved the Shell Island Resort. We are planning on going back every year. Everything was immaculate, and the rooms are perfect. We stayed in a two-double bed suite. Balcony overlooking the beach and the sunrise, and out the door and the hallway/balcony is overlooking the marsh side of the island and the sunset! Couldn't be any better!

Maid service was bad. Didn't clean room one day while we were there. Also A/C unit went out & it took 2 days to get it fixed & when they finally came to work on it, they came while we were trying to get ready for dinner. Very disappointed. WIll not stay here again.

We like this hotel because it is at the end of the island so not a lot of activity going by and the beach has nice walking area. There are no buildings on the sound side so great views when coming out of the room.

We really enjoyed our stay. The views were fantastic. Full kitchen with 11/2 baths, separate bedroom, 2 TV's and good hotel service. We didn't want to leave. Real good value right on the ocean.

Location is spectacular. Elevator was broken. Staff tried to accomodate. Condos were like home.

We have stayed at Shell Island twice now, three years between the trips, and we have been so pleased both times. The location is ideal for us and the staff make the experience that much better. The room layout was a little strange. You have an incredible view of the ocean but the bedroom is on the wall that faces the common hallway. We didn't hear any noise, but we visited in the winter when there weren't many guests. The staff was very helpful. Very nice facilities and beach access.

It could use some updating. The pull out couch's mattress was so thin that the springs would almost cut you. Also there was a big clump of hair in the bath tub.

Great location right on the beach. Oceanfront room with a king bed, balcony, great living room area. I definitely recommend staying here any time of year!

Our second stay at Shell Island and each visit was wonderful. The sound of the surf and the view of the beach cannot be beat. Great place.

Great views, quiet location, The suite is very pragmatic for short trips, very comfortable -- Overall the resort is showing its age a bit, but still pretty nice. If I was paying peak season rates I might be a little more critical, but off-season, it was a great deal. DV

The hotel staff was fantastic. The location was great and it was very quiet. We visited other areas of the Wilmington coast and this would be our first pick when returning to the area.

Beautiful location. Great room conditions. Coffee maker in room did not work and staff immediately replaced it. Had a package shipped to hotel and staff was very accommodating making sure package got to me. Room was pretty clean but there was a little mildew in the shower. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we plan on going back.

For the most part the experience was great great for kids enjoyed every minute except for the beds coulda been a little bigger maybe a queen size other than that was a great stab!

Lots of fun, beautiful scenery, excellent seafood, fabulous view from the room, beautiful beach and very helpful young people at front deak. Only complaint is maid service was sketchy and one day non existent. There was only one maid that took very good cazre of us.

Thought we were having double room but it was one room with 2 double beds, so we ended up using the sofa, which was very uncomfortable with the thinnest matrass, could feel the springs in our backs.

This hotel is in a great location but it is dated and not in the best condition. The staff was ok considering it was off season, but they didn't go out of their way to help with anything.

I came to the beach to see the sunrise and avoid all the shopping crowds at home. The hotel is perfectly situated so that the sun filled the room with sun all morning. Direct beach access on a quiet part of the beach. The room was clean and very comfortable. Was a nice way to try out this place for longer stays in the future.

The decor was dated, which was fine, but the bathroom needed some repairs. Caulk was old and coming off, the shower head was clogged (my plumber husband was able to take it off and clean it out with a knife), the shelf over the toilet was coming out of the wall. There was a water filter in the kitchen, but the tap water in this area is awful and the […] filter needed to be changed. We just bought bottled water to keep in the room. Off-peak visit in great weather in mid-November. Dining options were limited, but breakfast buffet was fine. Outstanding beach-facing, high-rise suites with balcony in secluded north end of Wrightsville Beach. Perfect for romantic getaway and relaxation. Unbeatable vista.

The rooms are nice. It's an older hotel but its clean. The hotel staff is what really makes this place stand. Everyone from the front desk to the bartenders was very friendly. Each room has a kitchen complete with silverware, plates, cups, pots, pans .... Great for families looking to save some cash on meals.

My husband and I loved the Shell Island Resort. Beaches were clean and beautiful. Views from the room was fantastic. Will defintely be back next year.

We came to this hotel for little vacation. The staff was great and the room was very clean. Had an issue setting the thermostat that was QUICKLY rectified in a timely manner. The greatest piece of the whole room was the view of the ocean. We were on the ninth floor, which made it even more superb.
