The hotel has a very good breakfast buffet that we took advantage of everyday. Pelican Bay is located right next to Port Lucaya Marketplace which we enjoyed and across the street from the Grand Lucayan Resort. We paid the $15 to use the facilities at the Grand Lucayan with its beach access because it was $10 to rent a beach chair at the public beach, […] which is not nearly as nice. The staff was very nice at the Pelican Bay Resort, but we had to ask several times for a new light bulb in our bathroom. The livingroom furniture is in very sad shape, but our beds were comfortable. There is a real need for more lighting in the bedroom, and storage space for clothes is lacking. We loved the Sabor Restaurant which is next to one of the pools on the property. The original room we had (standard king) was older, had a loud HVAC, old T.V. and numerous other annoyances. We spoke to the manager the next morning and were immediately put into a king suite. Both rooms faced the bay, but the suite had a modern HVAC that was quiet and the upgrades welcome. The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel's restaurant, […] Sabor, was excellent. Pelican Bay Resort is situated close to the Lucayan Marketplace, the area hub of shopping and eating, and complimented by an adjacent marina for those who want to tour, dive, or snorkel.. The beach is across the street and just after […] the Grand Lucayan, but there are nicely maintained pools at the Pelican. The hotel's Sabor Restaurant serves reasonably priced, good food and is a relaxing spot to dine by the water's edge. P.B. is directly across the street from the Grand Lucayan where there are more water sports activities, parasailing, eateries, and a casino. Pelican Bay's exterior is attractive and pretty lighted at night. Our room and another we saw lacked in cleanliness. Bathroom walls and back of the door needed washing/painting, the sink fixtures of the room sink were corroded and rusted .Bedskirts were filthy. The groaning AC was too loud and noisy, so we used the overhead fan. I do not need the Ritz, but furn iture was subpar,like 2nd/3rd hand , and the stained tabletop needed a fresh whitewash. Housecleaning staff cleaned the best they could given the room furnishings.This was my 1st Bahamas trip, so maybe I didn't know what to expect in hotel quality. The room was not what was expected. The wall in the bathroom shoul had been repainted or cleaned, shoes or other markings on the wall, the toilet leaked water, and the furnishings were not quality. Based on advertisement, the room quality was dissapointing.

The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. We loved the resort and enjoyed having a choice of three pools. The location of the hotel was wonderful being within a short walk to the market place and restaurants. The staff made me feel at home. They were always pleasant, courteous, and helpful. They have a beautiful positive attitude. You are close to everything, within walking distance. T he weather was great, and the ocean is close by. There is a ferry, free of charge for the hotel guests. I would definitely stay there again!

This hotel has a nice rustic persona. It has a number of rooms, but looks like cottages, so you get a real feel of the Bahamas. My stateroom had a balcony overlooking a bay area. Very peaceful! Staff helpful and friendly. I will definitely return.

The only complaint we had was the service. It's slow (which is normal for Bahamas but this was ridiculous) and non-existent at times. On occasion the bars or restaurants at our hotel were closed (at normal dining times) with no communication to guests. We requested various help or services and 9 times out of 10 received no help or a very lazy response […] back. They were constantly out of pool towels and this was the low season. Super resort, all the staff from front desk to the maids were genuinely friendly,polite and very helpful. The pools and grounds are very well maintained as well. The choice at breakfast is great and the coffee excellent ! Only a short walk from the square at Port Lucaya where there are shops,bars and eateries. The Sabor resturant at pelican Bay is amazing,Chef […] Ziggy, the bar staff and waitresses are all brilliant and there is a happy hour too !!! When we first arrived at our room, we felt it to be very musty smelling and needing alittle tlc. the grout in the bath was needing replacement and the tub could have used some bleach to get it white again. it appeared very tired and musty. Hotel was nice , rooms comfortable with a cool seating area on the balcony overlooking the pool/marina area. The service however was slow and on "Island Time".I had requested a late check out and they turn off my key at 12 and couldnt get into my room, so i had to go down to front desk to clear this up. Also, we lost power for a while and i am not sure what does the power has to do with the water but we also lost all water in our room. Very dissapointing. This is a wonderful hotel....we stayed 2 nights, went to another destination, and then returned for another night. Our room was a beautiful waterside suite...living room and separate bedroom.....an added extra was the pre-breakfast that was delivered to the "box in your door"! This hotel strikes me as nothing special. it is a hotel at which to sleep, with no additional services to entertain the guests or provide anything other than the room. The restaurant and bar close way too early leaving the guest nothing if they arrive late. The chef in the kitchen for breakfast needs to learn how to cook more than just mass produced […] scrambled eggs. I love Freeport as it's very laid back and affordable, not crazy touristy like Nassau or Atlantis. A lot of problems with American Airlines both going and returning. Room had very noisy aircon - it was even noisier when switched off, sounding like a plumber's nightmare all night! Like most in Grand Bahama, staff service levels at Pelican are very low - reception was most unhelpful on several occasions when we requested assistance.. The Hotel failed to deliver the included pastries on our last day "Due to Technical […] Problems" - but no substitute was offerred, and teh fruit usually delivered was also omitted. There is a general air of decay and deterioration about the whole resort area - with many restaurants etc closed down since our last visit in 2011 - and the published "evening entertainment every night in Count Basie Square" simply didn't happne on several nights - and was of a generally poor quality. Front desk employees, Karen, Salario and Eleanor were always pleasant and couldn't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. The Hotel was basic, nothing elaborate but very clean. I would stay again. Easy access to everything.

Didn't care for the seaside rooms , not high quality but upgrade yourself to the staterooms as they are upgraded with very high amenities , great view of water and for small extra money. The hotel restraunt by the water was absolutely the best , wonderful food and reasonably priced.

Second worst service I've ever gotten from a Hotel. Had to ask AT LEAST 4 times for anything to get done. Nobody that worked at the hotel looked like they wanted to be there, much less wanted to deal with customers.

Pelican Bay is a wonderful quiet resort overlooking the marina and channel. If you are looking for a nice relaxing place, away from the crowds and the tourists, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a family resort or one on the beach with activities all day to entertain you, than this is not the place for you. The staff was very helpful […] and pleasant to work with. The grounds were well kept and the place was beautiful. The suite we had was superb, with plenty of room and privacy. The 3 pools were great--sometimes we were the only ones at them! 30 yrs ago as a meeting planner I spent almost 3 weeks in Freeport and it was a nightmare. Staff was surly and slow, maintenance was not completed as requested just a bad scene. So I was hesitant about this trip but was willing to give it a go. What a turnaround. The staff at this hotel (not the same one as 30 yrs ago) and everyone we met either on […] the street or on excursions were absolutely wonderful to us. The treated us like family. The hotel is set on a waterway, but it is so easy to get to the beach from there -- water taxi's anyone? Staff was awesome -- quick service, pleasant, easy smiles -- just a happy experience. It you want to go snorkling, dolphin swimming, or use ski do's, it is so handy to set up. Meal prices are extremely reasonable for a resort -- I came back with lots of cash in my pocket. The hotel is old and shows it age. Room lighting is poor and our room is in need of an upgrade. The floors, wood trip, bathroom have experienced a lot of wear. The breakfast buffet was OK but dull.
