This hotel was extremely small and not very convenient to metro if traveling with a child. It was half a mile to the metro in either direction. My husband arrived after we did (due to work) and the front door of the hotel was locked at 12:45am but no one manning the front desk. He was standing in the rain. Overall, I am very glad I chose to stay at the American Inn of Bethesda. The hotel itself is nothing overly fancy, but it's location is perfect if you intend to visit the NIH or Walter Reed. It was a short walk each morning, or the hotel could shuttle you there if you reserved it in advance. The hotel was also within walking distance of downtown Bethesda […] and the Medical Center Metro and Bethesda Metro stops. very nice hotel, good location. There is a free circulator to get to the Metro station or even for a tour at Bethesda. The staff at the front desk was very helpfull . The room was clean. The bed was so comfortable. The breakfast was poor.I would surely come back again .

This hotel is least expensive in the area, and I can see why. Although the room was clean, the shower handle was broken and never fixed during our 6 night stay. The breakfast was good if you were there early enough to have a good selection...the good items were rarely replenished. For the money, considering the cost of hotels in the DC area, this is an excellent value. The room and elevator are small and the towels are skimpy, but you get what you pay for. The location and price is all.

Hotel room looked nothing like website pictures. Hotel staff was friendly, but that was the only redeeming quality of this place. Room was not even up to the quality of a motel. This is an old hotel. The biggest problem was with sound from neighboring rooms. The walls are thin. The room is small but adequate. The plumbing in the bathtub didn't work exactly right But, it seemed clean, the people were nice, the fitness center had decent equipment, the breakfast was included, and best of all the price was reasonable.

Parking was a bit difficult at times, but since it's in a busy city, I felt that we did OK. Overflow parking was reimbursed by hotel when using a metered lot across the street. After pricing nearby hotels, this one came out to be the best value. I would definitely book them for an upcoming stay.

I stayed at this hotel on 3/9/13 and while in my room at night keep hearing noises in the ceiling and turned out to be rats running in the ceiling. I called the front desk and they said sorry and will have someone check it out. I checked out of the hotel and will never stay there again.

Good if you are on a budget & traveling to the NIH. Walking distance, and not as pricey as the nearby Doubletree. Very friendly and helpful staff. Quality is like a good roadside motel. The rooms are small and the walls are thin, letting in a lot of noise from neighboring TVs. Still, the location is excellent and breakfast was exceptional: a waffle machine, hardboiled eggs, breakfast sandwiches, cereal, pastries, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc.

It was very pleasant. One thing that i did not like is that the comode in my room was not cleaned properly nor had a strip stating that it had been previously sanitized.

In order to access the workout room, we had to go through the parking garage to the back. My daughter and I were staying for an interview and we felt unsafe walking through the parking garage to a remote area to exercise. The restaurant that was attached to the hotel was under construction with plastic hanging around the seating area.

The hotel was no better than "fine." The room was clean enough, but very small. The walls were too thin -- in addition to hearing a neighbor in the next room (never pleasant in a hotel late at night), there was a lot of hallway noise, and someone's alarm clock went off at 5 a.m. and woke me at least 2 minutes before it was finally turned off. The hotel Is old and dirty. The hotel mgr was on site and was ride but the girl at the front desk was pleasant. The area around the ice machines in the hall was filthy. The rooms are super small. The hotel suited our needs. We stayed 3 nights the end of December. The hotel and rooms were clean. The mattresses were comfortable and slept well. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, they helped find near-by restaurants, answered hotel questions, helped with transportation to metro subway. The rooms were not the most up to date but pleasant. […] Not real satisfied with the continental breakfast, we ended up eating somewhere else the last 2 mornings. The metro subway is farther than the hotel advertises. Just have to plan for other transportation after 3pm and plan for breakfast alternatives, and parking lot holds only about 10 cars maybe. The office staff was friendly there were no problems with the checking in and out of the hotel. However, the elevator was dirty and the carpets throughout the lobby area were dirty and tired looking. The lower half of the wall across from our room had caved in and the wallpaper was half attached with a piece of electrical tape in an attempt to cover […] the hole! There were drywall chips and dust all over the floor. The sink in our bathroom had a 2 inch thick layer of caulk around it seemingly to keep it attached to the wall and the hot water would come and go while taking a shower. The carpets were dingy and the ceiling tiles had water stains. The bed was comfortable, but the elevator did not work well, the buttons would not work half the time trying to get to the 5th floor. The room was nice for the price.

convenient location. One bed rooms are very small, but the two-beds are fine. Maintenance and cleanliness are not great. Parking is limited, but there is a parking lot nearby, and a nice courtesy of the hotel is that they put money in the meters at 7-10 AM.

We wanted to stay close to Walter Reed as well as to a Metro station. The American Inn is older but well maintained. The Metro is an easy walk. The Inn does have a shuttle that will go up to one mile away. The breakfast was adequate & contained pretty normal hot & cold choices. We'd stay there again.

Nice stay, reasonable breakfast, courteous staff. The only small issue is that it is a 10 minute walk to the metro, but after that it is gr8, just 20 minutes to union station.
