Generally good but they refuse to turn the central air cOnditioning while it is very warm in the room and toooo noisy to open the window . Their reason is temperature is chill outside hotel which doesn't make sense at all. It's just too warm and not good ventilation if sleep with all window closed :(

The Marvel Hotel is an art deco hotel with history, yet is newly renovated on the inside. It does not have an eerie feel. The rooms are quite small but adequate. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is clean with complete toiletries. The TV doubles as a computer which is really a bonus. Nanjing lu is reachable by cheap taxi ride where you have lots of shopping and additional dining options. The hotel staff are helpful but not quite versed with the English language. Was delighted to find this hotel - affordable, great location, good reviews and nice looking rooms on hotels.com. You can just tell the cab driver its the YMCA near dashijie mrt station. Although so, we used the people's park mrt station most often as it was better connected, though its a tiring walk (for my older parents). My room was nice, comfortable, […] and clean, though i noticed that some part of the comforter was torn - perhaps housekeeping should check more thoroughly. Another grouch is that although the hotels.com website state that (all rooms include) a separate bathtub and shower, and Rollaway beds available, these were not provided. In addition, one of the rooms i booked was smaller then the other, so i suspect they gave me a superior room rather then a deluxe. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and really value for money. Just a few steps from Dashi subway station and in a short walking distance from many places of interests (The Bund, Nanjing road, museums, fake market etc.) make this hotel a very good choice for the tourist who don't want to spend a lot of money on hotel bills. On the negative side, I would mention that the rooms are a little small (but a nice bathroom, […] fridge, aircon etc.). Stay away from the bar. The staff seems to be fluid in chinese and nothing else ... and have great difficulties in understanding what you want if point at the bar menu. (I.eg. hot limonade/Coke). The bar is pricy as well (compared with local standard). The breakfast is cheap (50 RMB for the buffet) but the quality is not good. - You'll have to cue up at the reception to buy coupons and in the restaurant it seems that the 8-10 persons staff are busy talking to each others instead of make notice to guests. (You'll have to find and collect fork, knife, spoon from other tables and brush breadcrumb away from your table by yourself). Excellent hotel wit good location and comfortable room. The room is well heated . excellent housekeeping. The only complaint is the cny50.00 fee for lost card. The customer must be informed during check in.

The location is okay, close to a metro station, but still >20 min walk from the river. BTW, the map in hotels.com is wrong! hair dryer is listed as an "included" item in hotels.com, but was not in the room. We had to ask for one. We specifically asked the cleaner not to clean our room, but our room was still cleaned later! I am very pleased with the entirety of the hotel. Everything mentioned in the review by other guests were very accurate apart for some hiccups here and there: 1) aircon temperature controller is not controllable. No matter how you set it, it will just jump back to "preset" temperature by "unknown". Probably centrally controlled. As we are afraid of […] the heat and fortunately the weather was warm during my stay thus the temperature was remotely set to 17 degree celsius. On my last day of stay, the weather turned cold and room temperature was remotely set to 22 degree celsius. I believe the room will be warmer in respond to the weather. This is a draw back of the room. 2) Gym under revonation and was not indicated in the hotel website thus all my work out kits became white elephant. 3) No indication of reception on 2nd floor thus was a little lost when I arrived at the main entrance. 4) Website indicate that windows can be open but my superior deluxe windows were sealed. Of course it would be better if it is located at People's Square. The map provided by the website is not correct. The hotel is next to DaXiJie MRT Station. I would stay here again if there is a good discount. The basic room is a bit small for 2 persons. I prefer a big room. Behind the the hotel is a street lined with famous restaurants. Really nice room. Close to shopping area.

The Marvel Hotel is clean, comfortable, and a few steps away from a metro stop. It offers many of the services of an upscale business hotel but at half the price. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, with a good mix of Western and Chinese choices. It's hard to find such value for money in a major city.

Nice location with lots of options within a block of the hotel

We found this hotel very good indeed.close to the forbidden city also a fantastic little street where we where able to buy good quality fruit and eat in a localy owned restaurant The only down side was breakfast still they where not by themselves regards poor breakfasts in China. I would go back again the front desk was always very helpful with the young girl in charge speaking very good English. I went to Shanghai for a visit. love the hotel and location. very clean, near to everything and the subway run under the hotel. very clean rooms but not much view. the only thing i didn't like about the hotel is the A\C. the A\C was not working as it's not summer yet. so my room was hot. changed my room to have bigger window but didn't change much. […] i personally will only stay there in winter but summer i wont stay in this hotel. We had a terrific stay at the Marvel Hotel in Shanghai. Although this is not a five star hotel, it has many amenities. The location is terrific. We recommend it as a cimfortable, convenient place to stay in the heart of Shanghai.

A good place to stay, with just 2 minutes walk and you will be surrounded by good restaurants from breakfast to dinner. Very close to the metro and people's square. Quick check-in and if you are member of the hotel you can check-out at 2 pm. I've stayed in Marvel Hotel for 2 consecutive times and will be staying there again in my next trip to Shang […] hai. I dont know quite how to describe this Hotel. Strange place, not sure what class it would be , i suspect 3 star is about right. The only two downsides to my stay were the room was quite small compared to usual Shanghai hotels and because I travel on business, a large portion of my time is spent in the rooms working online or just relaxing before bed […] and this room was just too small for either, but the bed was comfy and everything was there. The second thing was the complete lack of any western food on any menu and to be honest, the lack od choice for food within the hotel, after a 17 hour day travelling to suppliers, you dont always feel like taking taxi,s and facing the Shanghai hords to find a restaurant and Mcdonalds / Pizza hut are just not my bag. Apart from this its good value for money and english is spoken by most staff and they were very helpfull and pleasant. Although in my review i have stated that I would not stay here again, this should not be read as the hotel is bad, because it isn't , it just doesnt suit my particular requirements. The only other issue which affects pretty much all hotels throughout china is the fact that people smoke fags everywhere and at all times and the place has the whiff of them everywhere and I hate it. The hotel experience is wonderful, the food around the area is great too especially when you are hungry at night. Location wise, we cant ask for me, just 2 mins to the subway. I stayed here for 11 nights and I was very satistfied with the level of service I received whilst I was there. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Fortunately I was given the option of having a non-smoking room. Very good location- walkable distance to East Nanjing Rd and Peoples square. The tough part was locating the hotel. It did not show up on any of the local maps. Finally we found out why. Cos this hotel is called YMCA hotel!!! It's listed in the local maps as YMCA and it's quite easy to locate it once u get the right name. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. Unlike the common crowd and traffic in Shanghai, the hotel […] staff makes you feel much more welcomed. Rooms are very clean and spacious, basic ammenities are all available. Great location, surrounding with eatery street & shopping centers, walking minute to MRT station. Hotel is clean & tidy, very impressive on the hotel staff presentation & services. Helpful staff assist us carry our bulky luggages from Level 1 entrance to Level 2 hotel lobby while waiting us check-in at the front counter then to our hotel room.

Réception au deuxième étage , pas facile a trouver quand on arrive.Buffet petit déjeuner très bien . Petit déjeuner a 50 RMB c'est très correct . Chambres bien équipée. Niet plezierig omdat er overal, zelfs in de ontbijtzaal werd gerookt , er werd nauwelijks Engels gesproken en de beloofde non smoking room was er niet totdat we dreigden weg te gaan, toen kregen we een non smoking room

한국 사람들의 후기가 많이 없어서 걱정하고 갔지만 만족하고 온 호텔입니다. 무엇보다 친절한 직원들과 좋은 위치였습니다. 지하철 역이 바로 앞에 있고 모든 관광지의 중심이어서 이동이 편리했던 것 같습니다. 비즈니스 호텔로 많이 이용하는 듯 하여 호텔 방이 조금 좁았지만, 불편할 정도는 아니었습니다.

상해 주요명소 관광을 위한 교통적 측면은 매우 양호함 (이동시 택시비 평균 20원 전후), 시설은 특별함없이 깨끗하고 청결한 정도, 방 싸이즈는 비교적 작아서 출장에 최적이나, 가족여행에는 다소 부적격, 컴퓨터와 TV 겸용 가능하나, 컴퓨터 연결 안되고, 객실내 무선인터넷 없어 다소 불편. 전체적으로 비용 및 접근성 감안하면 매우 양호한 편이나, 숙소의 아늑함 및 낭만의 느낌은 다소 부족함.

Très bon compromis entre modernité et tradition. Excellente situation à deux pas de NanjingLu et autres lieux intéressant accessibles à pied.

飯店樓下有很多商店可以採買日常用品或食物，飯店到許多熱門區域也都很近，交通也很便利，除了房間隔音不是很好以外，但是如果商務或是旅行預算有限，我認為Marvel是個非常棒的選擇!

Fräscht , nyrenoverat hotell mitt i centrala stan. vänlig tillmötesgående personal. avskalat och fri från lyx bara snyggt rent ochtillmötesgående.. Det står YMCA .... men det var längesedan. Generös frukostbuffé för 50 :- . Kan varmt rekommenderas.

I travel in business regular to Shanghai, and this hotel will be my new favorite hotel, Good price, new renovated rooms, I booked Deluxe Superior room good location, 30 m to subway, decent breakfast, not perfect but cover basic needs. Cloce to Jinlung Lu and all the intrument shops. Recomended Little noice from traffic if you are sensitive

Lived here for 6 days with my wife, 2 children (aged 6 and 7months) and my parents in beginning May 2011. Had a nice stay, nice rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet (varied selection of chinese and european food). Price for hotel is very fair and affordable Location is super, very close to shopping in Huahai road, and a walk to the Bund takes […] approximately 20 minutes, and just outside of the hotel is the subway. We stayed for 1 week in the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and professionnal and the breakfast very good. The hotel is very well situated and we recommand it without an hesitation

L'hôtel est idéalement situé au sud-est de People's Square. La station de métro Dashijie (8) est accessible à quelques mètres. Le bâtiment est rénové mais conserve son aspect 1911. Il y a de très beaux décors dans l'entrée. L'enregistrement se passe bien, même pour les anglophones. Les chambres sont spacieuses, bien décorées, il y a du double vitrage, […] ce qui évite d'avoir trop de bruit à l'intérieur. La salle de bain est bien agencée, avec tout ce qu'il faut pour faire sa toilette (produits, serviettes, peigne), la douche est dotée d'un pommeau amovible ainsi que d'un gros pommeau au plafond, et le tout est très propre. Le lit est confortable. Un grand écran plat sert de télévision (seulement deux chaînes en anglais, CCTV news et CNN) et d'accès à internet (avec un clavier sans fil fourni). Il y a aussi un accès internet filaire sur le bureau. La climatisation ne dispose pas d'une bonne régulation, la température affichée ne correspond pas à la réalité. Deux bouteilles d'eau potable (33 cL) sont offertes chaque jour. Le ménage est fait assez rapidement chaque jour (laisser de préférence une étiquette sur la porte).
