Tru by Hilton Grand Rapids Airport

We chose this hotel as it was just built and everything was new. Overall, we had a good affordable stay. Staff was friendly and the room was clean. The only downside to our stay was the quality of the breakfast food and not having a hot tub in the pool area.

I am disabled, reserved handicap accessible room. Went to check in at 3, was told room would be ready half hour. 45 minutes later was told not sure when it would be ready, just wait by assistant manager! I took regular room and fell in shower due to very slippery floor! Then to top it off, the alarm clock start going off at 6am and would not shut off! Never again!

The hotel interior itself looks nice as it's brand new. However there was a permeating chemical smell in the public areas (entrance, lounge…). The style was clearly aiming for vibrant but once overlaid with the experience in the room itself, I realised it felt like a modern university dormatory. A general sense of impermanence. IKEA is a level about it in feeling more permanent and comfortable. The construction is what I had my biggest gripe with as the walls and floor were paper thin and you could hear people walking above and below you. The walls really came into play when I was forced to 'bear witness' to the sexual antics of my 'neighbours'. And the flags outside the windows were pretty damn loud blowing about without the walls or windows being very well insulated. Oh and I am nearly forgetting that there's NO CUPBOARD or drawers in the bedroom. Then in the morning I went for breakfast and the what was available was miserly, underlying the feeling that this place was designed for students. If you like bad scrambled eggs, weak coffee and 'gluey' porridge (oats), then this place might be for you. Having travelled for 28hrs from Australia to "Grand Rapids", I couldn't put up with that and jet lag for another 3 nights so I checked out after that 1 night.

It sucked. Nothing but drunks. Staff did what they could but police should have been called.

the lobby was extremely noisy, there was big group of lot kids running around at the lobby, eating and hanging out. One kid even staring me down for couple minutes since he said I was sitting at "his" chair. At our floor at night, the kids noise was continued, running around the floor with lot of actions. I feel like I was back in a college dorm during weekend!!!!
