Great Western Hotel

Location was nice,We had a superior room facing the sea which gave us a fantastic view.The room & building could do with a bit of updating ie painting.Biggest annoyance of the room was the Blue neon light that was in all night and resulted in moving a chair to hide the light.Spent 3 nights there,The staff were pleasant enough.Food & drink bkth very nice in the bar/garden area.

Hotel was in a great location for the town and the beach. Room was the smallest room i have ever stayed in but the view was quite nice, overlooking the garden and the sea towards newquay harbour. Had an issue with carparking at the hotel as they told us we could only reserve for 3 nights, head office told us 4 and booked them, for the hotel to then tell us its only 2. We did get the 4 after a few emails though. We booked a double room but the hotel booking was for 2 singles. One night we were walking the beach and we needed the toilet so went back to the hotel, the receptionist would not allow us to use the ones situated next to the reception desk and told us we had to go back to our rooms, but later were told that we could have used them by another staff member. We asked if we could go through to the garden at the rear of the hotel but were stopped as we would have to buy a drink to access it but at the end of our stay we were told it was ok and we could. Overall a nice hotel, clean and friendly. Well located with good views. Just need all the staff to know what they are doing as there was too much differing information.

I booked a double room and was given a twin, apparently they didn't have any doubles even though I booked 3 weeks earlier. The room was small and well worn. I asked where the hotel parking is and was told that there is a public pay and display over the road. So "Self parking" with a green tick means no onsite parking available for me. They do have some parking but only for about 15 cars. I asked for my money back because they failed to give me the double room I ordered and there was no parking - they refused. I walked out disgusted and found a decent hotel nearby. So as far as I am concerned they stole my money and after complaining to hotels.com they did nothing.

Very nice stay. Old building but well modernised inside if a rather confusing layout. Room not the biggest but certainly very comfortable. Fairest description of the restaurant is that it is ok but I've known better. Also beware of the switch for the towel rail, the built in light is so bright it lights up the room at night but you do get used to it. Would definitely stay here again, especially for the wonderful view out of the window.

the hotel is a great location. Id advise to book parking. but if you dont, there are back streets that are safe to park down. the hotel was nice and clean and breakfast was good. My only moan would be the sausages with the veggie breakfast. Not the best. Quorn ones are nicer. will definitely stay there again

We booked a 6 night stay in this hotel, we booked a double room. When we arrived we were given a twin, with a shower. When I explained that this wasent what we had booked I was told that we had booked through expedi and that this “always happens“ apparently they had no other rooms available during our stay apart from a family room that also had a shower that we could have for a couple of days in the middle of our stay ? I dident feel this was an option moving back and forth. So we ended up in room 230.i hope you like the picture of the view from our window. The shower did not work and it was just a trickle, the bathroom had a very strong sewage smell for lots of the stay. Pillows were like rock and it was very hot in the evening ( maybe over kitchen . ) I asked afew times to fix the shower and commented we would be happy to move rooms at this point but was constantly met with. “ it’s very busy I will see what I can do “ only to be met with surprise and no knowledge of the issues when we checked back. I mentioned cutting our stay short and was told that we could not have a refund if we did this. Considering we were staying so long one would have expected them to be more accommodating and concerned about our lack of bathing facilities.

Great view, spacious, quiet and convieniently located

Reception staff lady really helpful. Didn't use facilities, so can't comment on those. Hotel is overpriced for what it is and room and property is in need of updating and modernisation.
