The Ship Inn

The hotel looked newly refurbished, room was very clean, fresh and comfortable. Dining facilities were pleasant. Precautions had clearly been taken in light of COVID and worked very well - very safe. The staff were what stood out to us though; the young chap on the desk (and organising the restaurant for breakfast) was a credit to this hotel. Very friendly, professional and eager to help! 10/10, would stay here again.

Ship Inn was fabulous, lovely staff, lovely place, lovely breakfast, only criticism was the bed which was uncomfortable.

The room was clean and comfortable and had 2 chairs to watch TV The evening meal was excellent and the staff very attentive and the dining room ambience was lovely. Would definitely stay again and could not recommend it highly enough.

We had an overnight stay at the Ship Inn following a wedding locally. The staff were very attentive & welcoming. The rooms were clean with very comfortable beds. The owners were friendly & kept the bar open for our return from the wedding.

When we originally looked at the Ship Inn we liked it because it did meals so we thought we'd not have to go elsewhere for our dinner and could relax with a drink in the bar. However between first looking and then booking the restaurant closed, which we weren't aware of until the day we arrived. We also weren't able to use the toiletries in the bedroom as they contained an allergen (milk). This is the first time I've ever had this issue anywhere. Hopefully it'll be something that will be changed as I think it's a bit dangerous having allergens in the toiletries without having an allergy notice up about them as you have to have with food. Other than that our stay was good, it's a lovely Inn in a great location. The (now underused) dining room/bar is beautifully furnished and the room was fine. There are 2 other hotels/pubs up the road which do evening meals, and there's 2 cafes nearby too so there's choices for eating out within walking distance. The staff were all very pleasant.

We looked for a hotel in Castle Douglas and were surprised to find Gatehouse was 17 miles away. We considered changing but are so glad we didn't. From our arrival to our departure the friendly staff made us feel so welcome. The hotel has been modernised sympathetically and is clean and comfortable. The restaurant was good and although the choice was not large the food was local and well cooked. Gatehouse is a lovely town with beautiful walks only slightly spoilt by the rain. We will return.
